Harmonizing Threads: The Art of Translating Music into Fashion at MDMA

When Michael approached me to commission a painting for him I was thrilled and nervous as is always the case with commissions for me. But when he told me his favourite band was Depeche Mode I felt better and his favourite album was Violator I knew I was in. I had always loved that album cover. I listened to my favourite songs on the album and looked at the album cover while I danced with the colours onto the canvas. The end result was elation for me. Luckily he loved it as well! The second piece sold quickly as well and not even to a Depeche Mode fan!

I love commissions because they stretch me out of my comfort zone into the unknown and more often than not the end result is super rewarding. If you are interested in a commission just let me know.

When Michael commissioned me to paint his favourite band Depeche Mode’s Violator album I was both excited and nervous at the same time. I was excited because I’ve always loved that album and the it’s cover but I was nervous because I’m always nervous with commissions!

But it didn’t take me long to put on the album and paint while looking at the album cover. It was pure joy listening to those songs which transported me back in time to when they originally hit the airwaves and I was in High School. Eventually the colours danced onto the canvas through me and I was elated with the result. Luckily, Michael was too!

Seeing the design on the clothing line just gives me that extra bit of satisfaction as wearable art becomes more popular.
